Mikel Arteta signs new Arsenal contract
Mikel Arteta has signed a new one-year deal with Arsenal.
The Spaniard moved to the Emirates from Everton in August 2011 in a £10million deal and has made 136 appearances for the Gunners.
The length of the contract is in keeping with the club’s policy of only offering one-year deals to players over the age of 30, but manager Arsene Wenger believes he remains a vital member of the team.

“He will stay with us for one more year because he has extended his contract,” Wenger told Arsenal Player.Credit: Setanta Sport
“He’s one of the leaders in the club because he’s the captain of the team. I expect him to contribute much more than last season but he also faces a battle.
“With the number of games we have ahead, we could use his experience, his desire and his quality as it will be vital for next season.”
