Soldiers repel Boko Haram attack on Gombi town of Adamawa State

Soldiers on Sunday repelled an attack by gunmen suspected to be members of the Boko Haram on Gombi Town of Adamawa State, residents have said.

The casualty from the attack is yet to be ascertained.

“The men came in from Zangula Village through the road by the side of Government Girls College at about 5:30 p.m. in a motorcade and started shooting,” a resident, Gambo Mohammed, told Premium Times.

Mr. Mohammed said many residents ran and hid themselves as the shooting continued for over two hours.

It was learnt that soldiers confronted the gunmen in a shootout and chased them from the village.

“We are not safe here even though some people said on phone that the army is chasing them,” another resident, Grace Likiah, said on the telephone.

The acting chairman of the council, Japhart Kefas, also confirmed that the soldiers confronted the gunmen.

“The insurgents were in my council headquarters and am in Yola, so l cannot say much about it,” he said “But report reaching me says that the army is chasing them and has taken over all the route into and out of Gombi”
