59 Soldiers face death penalty over refusal to fight Boko Haram

In a solemn trial that began yesterday, 59 soldiers of the Nigerian Army may be condemned to death following allegations of mutiny and refusal to fight Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State, North East of the country.

The soldiers are part of 97 military personnel including 15 officers that would be facing trial for various offences.

The General Court Martial (GCM) presided over by Brig-Gen Musa Yusuf at the Army Headquarters, Garrisson, Abuja slapped Corporal Andrew Ogwulekwu and 59 others with two count charges including: (1) Criminal conspiracy to commit mutiny, and count (2)Refusal to carry out an order to face Boko Haram insurgents.
