Nigeria Police begin nationwide enlightenment campaign on terrorism

As part of the strategies lined up in the ongoing war against terrorism, the Nigeria Police on yesterday in Abuja, began a counter-terrorism enlightenment campaign with the launch of a "fact sheet" to educate the citizenry on their roles in the war against terrorism.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, who launched the campaign through the force spokesperson, Frank Mba, a Chief Superintendent of Police, urged Nigerians to be vigilant and key into the campaign.

Abubakar said the public enlightenment materials, which are factsheets containing distress call numbers of the Police, the Department of State Services (DSS) and that of the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), are carefully designed by the Police to educate the general public on their basic roles in the fight against terrorism and how to identify terrorists’ subterfuge and other known modus operandi of criminals.
“This is expected to help in protecting citizens from falling victim to crime, thereby improving overall sense of communal safety,” he said.
The IG said tips contained in the fact sheets would help in protecting citizens from falling victim to crime, thereby improving their overall sense of communal safety.
He urged the people to pay attention to the security and safety tips contained in the leaflet, produced in English and five Nigerian languages including Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo.

Abubakar restated the commitment of the police and other security agencies in winning the war against terror and call on the public to frustrate every step of the terrorists by remaining vigilant all the time. He thanked Nigerians for their patience and resilience in the present circumstance, adding that such challenge would strengthen the collective resolve to preserve the peace of the nation.
