Jungle Justice: Mob kills kidnapper in Delta State

A suspected kidnapper died while being taken to hospital by the police on Wednesday after he was rescued from a mob in Eku, Delta State.

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Celestina Kalu, said the deceased was among three suspected kidnappers that had trailed one S.A. Ogbemudia on a motorcycle apparently to abduct him.

Kalu said Ogbemudia had earlier called the Divisional Police Office in charge of Abraka Division that he was being pursued by three suspected kidnappers operating on a motorcycle.
“When two of the suspected kidnappers trailing him saw him with the DPO, they made a quick U-turn and fled.

“The DPO followed the complainant and discovered that the third suspect had been arrested and seriously wounded by the mob.

“The suspect, who identified himself as Obodo Ochuko, was rescued by the police.

“He confessed to the crime and mentioned three of his accomplices, including one Joseph. The suspect led police operatives to Eku-Kraka village for possible apprehension of his accomplices and one Oghenejakpo Igubenu, was arrested, while others were discovered to have relocated,” she said.
She said items recovered included one English Berretta pistol with three rounds of live ammunition and one cut-to-size barrel gun.

She added that the wounded suspect died on the way to hospital for treatment.

The PPRO added, “Investigation is in progress, and efforts are on to arrest the fleeing suspects.”
