Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi threatens to expose Abuja-based politicians
Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, on Wednesday threatened to open a can of worms which he said would expose the deep character flaws in some “Abuja-based politicians” from the state.
Speaking in Port Harcourt when the Archbishop of the Niger Delta Diocese, Anglican Communion, Ignatius Kattey, visited him, Mr. Amaechi said the people of the state would be shocked by the revelations he would make about some of the politicians from the state that are being used by the federal government to fight him.
Although the governor did not mention names, it was clear he was referring to Abuja-based politicians in the camp of Minister of State for Education, Nyesom Wike, who have succeeded in factionalising the state’s chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, and who are believed to be gunning to remove the governor from office.
Indicating that the pasts of Mr. Wike and his allies were sordid and nauseating, Mr. Amaechi said the people of the state would completely lose respect for them once he opens up about their misdeeds.
Mr. Amaechi has been having a running battle with the presidency and the national leadership of his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, over his stance on major national issues, including the corruption in the petrol subsidy payments.
He is also said to be opposed to the re-election plan of President Goodluck Jonathan.
In anger, the presidency and the PDP moved February to dethrone the governor from his post as chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum.
The Federal Government has also grounded an aircraft owned by Rivers State claiming the plane hasn’t the right registration papers to operate in Nigeria.

The governor said, “I will speak to the state, but not now. When I speak to the state, you will not respect any of these people (Abuja-based politicians from Rivers). I am now determined to open up.
“I am not running for any other position that they would say ‘you must manage information so that people can trust you’.
“Nobody realises how much effort we have put in place for people to walk on the streets.
“Nobody realises how much money we have put in place to make people walk on the streets. All they are interested in is how they would bring down those efforts. So, as men of God, you must stand for the truth and preach the truth.”
