PDP urges FG to strip Governor Adams Oshiomhole of national honour

The PDP in Edo State on Thursday urged the Nigerian Central Government to withdraw the national honour, Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON), bestowed on Governor Adams Oshiomhole.

Mr Dan Orbih, the Chairman of Edo PDP, said in Abuja that the call became necessary following the governor’s interference in the recent local government elections in the state

He urged President Goodluck Jonathan to strip governor Oshiomhole of the national honour as a deterrent to other national honours winners who might want to engage in such dishonourable acts.

Submitting a protest letter requesting the withdrawal of the national honour to the leadership of the PDP, Orbih said, “Governor Oshiomhole does not deserve the honour.’’

Mr Kassim Afegbua, Special Adviser, Media and Public Affairs to Gov. Oshiomhole, while reacting to the call on telephone, described Orbih and his team as those who lacked morality.

He added that Orbih and his team were not competent to discuss issues of honour and morality.

It was learnt that Afegbua may be referring to Orbih’s role in the state congress of the PDP in Rivers State. Orbih reportedly attended the PDP Congress in Rivers State, only to turn around to say there was no congress. His stance triggered the political tension in Rivers state and the annulment of the election of G.U. Ake led executives.

He said that the calls were deliberate distractions which the ACN would not be dragged into.

Afegbua further said that the PDP should go to court and challenge the local government election results if they felt aggrieved by their outcome.

The PDP leadership had criticised the outcome of the April 20, elections in which the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) won all positions.
