7 weeks after breaking his nose, Fernando Torres still wearing 'lucky charm' mask
Seven weeks. It's a long time to be playing football while looking like a body double for the Lone Ranger.
But there Fernando Torres was at Stamford bridge last night - mask-and-all - almost two months after he first broke his nose against Steaua Bucharest on March 14.
It's a mammoth amount of time to still be wearing the protective cover: over what must have been one hell of a broken nose.
Team-mate Demba Ba took a hoof to his nose in the match with Newcastle at the start of February and was free of his mask a mere month later.
So, what's happening under Torres' mask?
Maybe he sees it as a lucky charm? Certainly his goal-scoring average has seen a timely boost.
His entire career at Chelsea has seen him score a goal on average every 3.8 games. But since the introduction of the mask, that has improved to a goal every 2.5 games.
