Rain storm wreaks havoc in Ibadan; ...over 200 buildings destroyed!

Properties worth millions of naira were destroyed as rainstorm wreaked havoc in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

In all, about 200 buildings were said to be affected by the rainstorm.

Worst hit were Challenge, Felele, Podo, Soka, Sanyo, Olorunsogo and Amuloko areas, as many residents of the areas were rendered homeless, while their valuables were destroyed.


There were also unconfirmed reports of deaths in several places around the city.

The rain storm, which began in the early hours of Monday, has caused immense damage to many properties within Ibadan metropolis. The rain storm, which took many residents unaware, blew away the roof tops of many private and public buildings.

Among structures affected are an orphanage on the Ibadan-Lagos Expressway belonging to Senator Bode Olajumoke, the Federal High Court at Iyana Adeoyo, Lead City University and many private houses at Fodacis area of the metropolis.

Other structures affected by the rain storm were PHCN installations, the overhead bridge linking Ibadan -Lagos Expressway with Challenge area of the city and the imposing bill board at Challenge belonging to Globacom, a telecom operator.

Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has directed the State Emergency Management Agency to provide succour to the people affected by the rainstorm.
