Liverpool targets PSV Eindhoven's 18-year-old lethal striker Jurgen Locadia

Liverpool are monitoring young Dutch striker Jurgen Locadia as a potential solution to their striker crisis.

The 18-year-old announced himself in some style after he scored an 11-minute hat-trick on his Eredivisie debut for PSV Eindhoven in their 6-0 defeat of VVV Venlo last month.

Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers is currently reduced to just one recognised striker in Luis Suarez after £10.5million summer arrival Fabio Borini was ruled out for three months.

The Italy international will undergo surgery on a fractured foot after sustaining the damage on Under 21 duty last week.

Uruguay star Suarez is due to arrive back on Merseyside ahead of this weekend's Barclays Premier League clash against Reading.

Rodgers will be hoping the forward is sufficiently recovered from his long jaunt from South America. But without Borini, Rodgers is relying on Suarez to provide the goals and stay injury-free for the next 12 weeks.

Liverpool's other main striker Andy Carroll was loaned out to West Ham in August on a season-long deal.

The Reds will now continue to keep tabs on PSV starlet Locardia in their search to bolster their options when the January transfer window re-opens.
