Man commits suicide by poisoning barely 24hrs after he was prevented from electrocuting himself

A middle-aged man identified as Afeez has allegedly committed suicide after drinking a poisonous substance.

The lifeless body of the deceased was found on Sunday, in his apartment on Olaitan street in Masha area of Surulere, Lagos.

The discovery came two days after Afeez was said to have been rescued from an attempt to electrocute himself.

Residents alleged that Afeez poisoned himself, but there has been no autopsy report to confirm the suspicions yet.

Eyewitnesses claimed that Afeez was spotted on Saturday morning climbing an high tension electric pole in the area, after confessing to friends the previous day that he wanted to end his life.

They said that Afeez had claimed to be bewitched and frustrated with life.

But residents successfully persuaded the deceased to get down from the high tension pole.

However, reports claimed that Afeez took some beating and abuses from an angry crowd, who were angered by his suicidal stunts.

Some of his friends, who were said to have rescued the deceased from the mob, also counseled him to look on the bright side of life. They, however, woke up to the news of Afeez's death on Sunday morning.
