Teachers In Ekiti To Embark On Indefinite Strike...Because State Government Decide To Conduct Competency Assessment And Examination For Teachers
Teachers in Ekiti State and the state government are on collision course over the latter’s decision to conduct competency assessment/examination on the former.
The government had, after the weekly state executive council last Wednesday, said it had approved the conduct of the tests for the teachers.
However, umbrella body for teachers, Nigeria Union of Teacher, NUT, kicked against any move by government to compel members to write tests under any guise.
In a statement, by its chairman, Mr. Oluwole Awolusi and Principal Assistant Secretary General, Chief Wale Oyeniyi, at the end of its state wing Executive Council meeting, NUT said: “Any attempt to forcefully impose the competency assessment or examination on teachers by the Ministry of Education would be strongly resisted and shall result into an immediate industrial action.”
The communiqué dated 11th April , 2012 and said “the SWEC-in-session rejects in its entirety the introduction or imposition of any competency examination on teachers. The meeting described the move as not only humiliating but also dehumanising and vows to defend and protect the dignity of teachers and the teaching profession.”
#OnlyInNigeria ...I just can't stop laughing...lolz!
Question is:
(1) Why is the same assessment and examination not imposed on all other government workers in the state?
(2) What are the teachers afraid of? U guyz conduct exams for students too!?
