Police Arrest Man For Killing And Burying His Girlfriend In Port Harcourt

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a man, Mr. Jim Zaccheus, for allegedly killing and burying his girlfriend in his room.

Zaccheus, who was, until his arrest, a resident of Elechi Beach in Mile One, Port Harcourt, was arrested on Tuesday.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mohammed Indabawa, who said this at a news conference in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, said Zaccheus and his girlfriend, Peace Mathias, had engaged each other in a heated argument over where she got money for her new hairdo.

Indabawa explained that the argument had prompted the suspect to beat his girlfriend to death. He later buried her inside his one-room apartment. Zaccheus was said to have dug a hole in his room and interred the remains of his girlfriend without informing anybody about the incident.

It was gathered that the stench from the room and the unusual movement of the suspect, who hurriedly bought a mattress to cover the shallow grave, made his neighbours to be suspicious. Indabawa said that some neighbours had alerted the police, who immediately swung into action and uncovered where the lady was buried.

The CP said, “We think that he had a quarrel with her before she was killed. We have exhumed the body of the victim this (Wednesday) morning and we will charge the suspect to court. “The suspect was arrested yesterday (Tuesday) and has confessed to the crime. We have yet to contact the parents of the deceased, but investigation on the incident is still on.”
